The Work Camp
We will four weeks together in San Christoferus spend and work together. The first two weeks will still take place during normal school in the next two weeks vacation. This means for us that we in the first two Weeks of support to the students in San Christoferus get. In the two last weeks of July we must then forward to the support of Peruvian students from other schools in Lima. We will help prepare the meals, or even partially cook yourself. For this purpose we may use the school kitchen. Also, the shopping will be a part of our mission, which is a great way to get to know of the market in Lima. We will also sleep in the school. During the day the work is at the water treatment plant and other smaller projects on the program. Evenings and weekends are available for family time and other Activities. There will of course also possible to see a little more of Lima and to get an impression of the environment. We have some ideas for trips and activities for the weekends, what exactly can we do, but we later decide. Options include alternative city tours, trips to the desert to Lima around, or even a weekend on the Pacific.
What shall we do? We will build primarily an ecological water treatment plant and an irrigation system for the vegetable garden at school. This system can be simplified as a habitat with more stages and with different Plants, which filter the water present. The filtered water is not drinkable, but is clean enough for irrigation. If we next find time, it is possible to continue the initiated last year to build the sense circuit.
The project was 1989, the special education school "San Christoferus founded. It is located in the district of Chorrillos in Lima, Peru.
The school has 10 classes and one kindergarten class and is attended by a total of about 30 students with various disabilities.
at the school is connected to a residential house in which some of the students are accommodated.
Lima is in the middle of the desert and so is the finely ground dry and sandy. something to plant is difficult. Nevertheless, the grounds of the school, a green oasis. New trees, shrubs, flowers, even vegetables for the daily lunch.
The school day begins at 8 in San Christoferus clock with a common morning circle. Then it goes into the different classes or one of the workshops. San Christoferus has a bakery and a wood workshop, some students also help in the garden.
