Perrier Has Carbon Dioxide

experiences of Benjamin

Why Volunteer work / Pratikum / Volunteer / Zivi to Lima, Peru?

When I in the 5th Semester, the next question was where and what semester internship, I immediately shot the idea abroad in the head. Once, during the study because it represents an opportunity to spend some time abroad and let the other just to get out of Germany by land, people and habits behind, to have a different experience to get to know another language and other people.

As I come from experience and reports of other travel quite a bit of South America have heard and read, the choice was then to Peru, and an online application to Alois and his lone ecological situation in the urban jungle of Lima.

Lo and behold, I was already in Lima.

What you have presented to you from your stay here (the idea before, expectations)?

Dangerous, dirty, dust-challenge.

That would not be easy, I knew, well I was at first a little arrogant as from an ecological and economic leader-derived industrial state, the "small" threshold Peru opposite: It would be much to create as But the Peruvians value our experience and technology and who would instantly!. On the other hand, it would also be difficult to change once retracted convenience operations and habits, or her think again, especially in the vast, complex network of big city, cities, poverty and daily struggle for survival.

How was / or is it now that you are here (also in view of the expectations)?

latter is true then it more. More specifically, the environmental and hygiene awareness in general terms I was pretty shocked. When I could see the same example in their early days as trucks laden with waste loading areas simply dumped into the sea in front of Lima, children in the buses with their waste out the window to the street and burned housewives threw their trash behind the house. Here many is simply not aware of just what brings health and environmental hazards such a harmful practice mitsich. Play with primarily social, educational and financial aspects involved. That is, one must engage in detail the structure of the social structure in order to change something

What do you take for you?

Unfortunately, it is so that one, especially as a gringo, often the arbitrariness of business service providers (whether taxi, easy business, etc.) is exposed and thus usually the "Gringopreis" paid. This has trained my negotiation skills and showed me to accept not all credulity. change

Also, to have some consequence (which proved to be difficult for me due to illness), a visible result and sustainability is very important.

What you would have done differently, you have done something different, what would you want to give to newcomers?
learned -More English! Longer taken English classes on site

project planning, and implementation differently, preferring other means.

-buys you is right at the beginning of a detailed map of Lima, because at the beginning it difficult to look through the public transport system and thus it is never wrong to know where you are.

you missing something, what would you do for your stay here (eg regular meetings, a place for cultural exchange, etc.)?

organized recreational activities, like sports and nightlife.

We would find it important when dealing with the issue of "sustainability" of the work and the use of volunteers. The impulses which it carries into it in your projects and work assignments which you have begun it - how can they be carried forward? And as you can when you are gone back again, and we support here on the ground, it?

regular visits and monitoring of project sites by persons from Place by mail between the project founders and local people with information sharing.
